(1) Introduction:

We really want you to enjoy your holiday here at Le Jardin du Berger and somehow having “Terms and Conditions” makes it all sound very impersonal and perhaps a little unfriendly. However, these Terms and Conditions are important and will clarify what you can expect from us as your hosts, and what we expect of you, our guests. These Terms and Conditions will help us to maintain our accommodation to a high standard for future guests, to keep our grounds, pets, the pets belonging to our guests and our guests themselves safe and comfortable. We’ve tried to keep it “short and sweet”, but there are some important points we need to cover. In proceeding with placing a booking, you must confirm that you are agreeing to the Terms and Conditions set out below

The “Owners” of Le Jardin du Berger are Bronwen and John Shepherd (see the info sheet Are we who we say we are? Can you trust us? ). The “Guests” are the people staying in the holiday cottage that has been booked; each one must understand and abide by the Terms and Conditions below. The “Lead Person” is the person booking the holiday – the person taking responsibility for the booking and the other guests. This person should be at least 25 years of age.

(2) Is Le Jardin du Berger right for you?

  • You need a car to reach our property – it is not accessible by bus.
  • We are keen to provide a peaceful holiday; the holiday accommodation is furnished and equipped for a specific number of guests; the maximum occupancy of Le Pommier is 6 people, and of La Maison d'été, 4 people. These numbers must not be exceeded - extra guests/ visitors – either for the whole holiday or for odd nights/days – are not allowed. If these set numbers are exceeded you may be asked to leave immediately and will not be refunded.
  • Only the people originally listed when making the booking, will be allowed to stay at the property.

(3) Payment:

  • To confirm your booking we will ask for a non-refundable deposit of 25%. 
  • Final payment is due 8 weeks before the start of your holiday. We will send out a reminder before the final payment is due.
  • Final payment is by Bank Transfer or by cheque; if you wish to pay by cheque it must be sent out in time for it to clear before the 8 week deadline. 
  • LATE PAYMENTS: If Final Payment is not received at least 8 weeks prior to your arrival, we will assume your booking has been cancelled. See “cancellation” below
  • Where bookings are made within 8 weeks of arrival, the full cost of the accommodation and the refundable Damage Deposit (see below) must be paid in full at the time of booking.
  • Included in your holiday cost - Linens and towels (including pool towels), electricity, water, gas are included in rental rate.

 (4) Refundable Damage Deposit:

  • When you pay the final installment of your holiday, we will also request a £200 Refundable Damage Deposit for The Pommier, £100 for the Maison d'ete.
  • This will be refunded within 7 days (usually within 48 hours) of your departure providing the conditions listed under (3) on our General Terms and Conditions are met.

(5) Cancellation:

Cancellation by you - Should you have to cancel your holiday, we require all cancellations to be by email to It is the responsibility of the Guest to check that the signed cancellation email has reached the Owners - cancellations are not deemed to be logged until you receive a reply from us.

Cancellation charges:

The 25% deposit is non-refundable… However, once we have been notified of your cancellation, if the cancellation is made between the time of booking and 8 weeks (or 60 days) before the start of your holiday we will attempt to re-let the property. If we are successful in re-letting, we will refund all money paid so farless a £50 fee. If the cancellation is made less than 8 weeks before the start of your holiday you will not receive a refund, unless we manage to re-let the property, which we promise we will try to do! We may have to reduce the price to do so, depending on the notice given. If we are successful in re-letting, we will refund you the difference between the original price and the reduced price, less an admin fee (to cover extra advertising, to re-let it!) of £50.

Cancellation by us - It is highly unlikely that we will have to cancel your stay… However, people do fall seriously ill, and people die. Dramatic as it may seem, houses do burn down and are struck by lightening… So, if we have to cancel your holiday please rest assured that it would only be in extreme circumstances and we would of course refund any money you have paid. However, our liabilities are restricted to this – we are not liable for any other costs involved such as car hire or flights. Should circumstances permit, we will do our utmost to help you find alternative accommodation.

(6) Holiday Insurance:

We strongly advise you to take out comprehensive holiday/travel insurance.
